Emma Oswald

For her whole life, Em has been an animal lover. She grew up helping out on her grandparents’ farm and later moved on to fostering dogs and puppies, which she still does today. Em wanted to be a vet growing up, but realised the medical side was not for her, so she headed down the dog training avenue.

Em got into dog sports with my mini Dachshund, Frankie, when he was about 2 years old and that sparked a big interest for her. She then adopted a mixed breed from the shelter, Nana, who needed some help for her anxiety, which turned into reactivity. Em discovered nosework and from day one, she was hooked (and so were the dogs). Em currently competes with all of her dogs in both nosework and other dog sports.

Em has a special interest in developing ‘sensitive’ dogs and helping them become stronger through nosework. She also really enjoys using nosework for puppies to help socialise and create brave, happy and confident dogs.

Lisa Stefyn

Nose Work Instructor PNWI, ACSW Judge (in training)

Lisa started working for Hide ‘n’ Seek in 2022 and has worked in the animal industry for over 20 years. She began her nose work journey as a Hide ‘n’ Seek student in 2019 with her Australian Shepherd “Bosley”.

When asked what she loves about Nose Work, Lisa said “I love that it is open to all dogs regardless of confidence levels, it is a sport that welcomes nervous or reactive dogs and can make a huge difference to how these dogs encounter the world. It is an addictive sport to compete in, and is made all the better by the friends you make along the way and hang out at trials with. When teaching I love watching dog and handler confidence grow and that “ah ha!” moment when it all starts to click into place.”

Currently Lisa teaches Novice (Birch) casual classes on Tuesdays and will commence her training to become a Certified Nose Work Instructor (CNWI) in 2024.

Stephanie Yoon

Nose Work Instructor PNWI, ANKC Scent Work Judge, ACSW Judge (in training)

Stephanie first started nosework with her Golden Retriever Winnie in 2021, quickly falling in love with the activity and all of its benefits.

Nosework was recommended to her by a friend after struggling to find the right activity to try with her dog. She has not looked back since her first class. Not only did she find that Winnie enjoyed the activity, Stephanie also discovered it strengthened her bond with her dog.

Stephanie began competing in 2022, and continued to acquire new skills and learnings. It cemented her passion for nosework and she began as an instructor with Hide ‘n’ Seek nosework later that year. Since then, she has had the privilege of working with different dogs with varying needs and styles. She has seen the benefit of the activity for both dog and handler, speaking to nosework’s accessibility and inclusivity.

As an instructor, she loves to foster greater understanding between dog and handler in reading body language, and analysing problem solving styles and preferences. Stephanie has learnt a lot from teaching and observing many different teams and enjoys that there is still so much to learn and understand.

Stephanie will soon embark on the ACSW CNWI Course, beginning in January 2024. She is an ANKC judge and is also an ACSW Judge-in-Training, hoping to give back to the wonderful community.
